Exploring Different Types of Piercings

There is a lot to be said when you start exploring all of the different types of piercings that you can get. Because of that, you may be looking at all of the different types of piercings that are available for you to check out. What are the different types of piercings and what are the differences between them? Here is a quick look at that and why it all matters in regards to helping you choose what type of piercing you want to have.

 Surface Piercings

Surface piercings are the most common piercings out there. When you take your teenager to get their ears pierced? That’s a surface piercing. The most basic definition of a surface piercing is that it’s a piercing that goes in one side of the flesh and out of the other. Most nose piercings and ear piercings fall into this category, and that’s what you see people getting the most often as well.

Dermal Piercings

Dermal piercings are literally piercings that are on the front of someone’s skin. These piercings are the ones that you see on the back of people’s necks, on their chests, or on their cheeks. Eyebrow piercings are the most common form of this piercing. They don’t go all the way through the flesh like a traditional surface piercing, but instead just go through part of the skin. A circle is cut out of the skin and that’s what gets pierced, essentially. These are less common, but there are people who really enjoy how they look and have several that they sport around their body.

Septum Piercing

In the category of nose piercings is the septum piercing. While technically a surface piercing, the septum piercing is unique because of where the piercing is placed. The piercing technically goes through your septum – the area that separates your two nose holes from one another. Septum rings are usually in the shape of a bar or a curve, and they go entirely through the septum (unlike other nose piercings, which are on the side of the person’s nose instead).

Daith Piercings (and other Ear Piercings)

Daith piercings are a specific type of ear (surface) piercing that is used for health reasons. There is a lot of research out there about how to reduce migraines, and piercings like Daith piercings are one of the types of piercings that people get in order to help with their migraine pain. Some people that have gotten daith piercings say that this can definitely make a difference, mainly because it has a similar effect to different types of acupuncture that could also be used for migraine relief.

There is a lot to be said about piercings, and whether you get them for aesthetics or for pain reduction, it’s a fairly simple process that you can get some assistance with if you need it. Consider looking at the different types of piercings that you can choose from and you’ll see which ones are going to be right for you.
